My E30 ('86 325) has the same problem -- the check light comes on but
there is never a problem with the rear license plate light. It is
always a great joy to have to explain to passengers why my BMW has a
light bulb inside which lights to tell me about another light bulb
outside which is supposed to be malfunctioning but in reality works
fine! Where is the light to tell me the light which tells me that the
light which...
