Dreaded E30 seat problems .. again

Well, I finally had a chance to break down my '84 318i driver's seat
and, sure enough, the upper inside rail was broken at the top cross
tube. Welded the cheesy thin metal, put the seat back together and the
inside edge still flexes. Looks like the inside ratchet/pivot mechanism
doesn't lock. Before the frame rail breaks again, does anybody have a
FAQ on repairing the ratchet mechanism?
