Jerry asks about a factory shop manual for his car:

Regulations under revisions to the Clean Air Act require car manufacturers to 
make available to independent shops all information needed to service all 
emissions related equipment.  BMW fought tooth and nail at not having to 
provide what it and many other manufacturers felt, was proprietary 
information.  However, the bureaucrats at the EPA won out, so BMW hired an 
outside service provider to distribute the data.

I don't have the original BMW part number for a paper version of your car's 
shop manual, but the fiche part number is 01 51 9 780 741, which lists for 
$17.16.  If you do want to purchase a paper version, you may order one under 
the same part number from Kent-Moore at 1-800-345-2233 for "only" $395.00.  
They accept MC and VISA and orders are shipped with 24 hours.  This is the 
company chosen by BMWNA to comply with the requirements of the Clean Air Act.
