skipping CD player

I have had this sort of problem with home CD players, but I don't have any
experience with a car player. However, at home I found two distinct
situations:

1) Skipping that was 100% reproducible--same point in the same track in
the same disc each time. This seemed to be some minor flaw in the disc
that only occurred with certain players (I tried the discs in at least 5
players). It was an inconvenience but didn't worry me about the health of
my CD player.

2) Skipping that was not reproducible--sometimes would occur, sometimes
fixable with cleaning, etc.... This happened more and more frequently as
the tracking motor (think that was what it was called) and laser on my CD
player went bad, and it was never reproducible as the first case was.

If the same holds true for car CD players then the second case could apply
to you. As this is the more ominous one, I hope it doesn't. Of course,
you could have an entirely different problem given your symptom of the CD
player "dirtying" your CD's.

Good luck,
Ware
