533i OBC Relay

I think it likely that the intermittent failure to start on your friend's
533i is indeed either the OBC relay or the ignition switch.  I would
definitely try the OBC relay first, as it is the easier to get at, as well as
less expensive to replace. 

 It is located above the glove box, next to the brain.  Simply remove the
flexible vinyl cover over the glovebox, and you should find the relay on the
right side, quite near the opening.  I believe it is a five pin relay (not
absolutely sure on this).
