My '85 535i came equipped with TRX's. They were fine at the time, but tires have
improved considerably since then. After having trouble getting replacement TRX's
in 1992, I decided to switch. I bought some very attractive 5-spoke ATC alloy
wheels from Exotic Wheel and tire in Florida (then $75/each) and Sumitomo tires
(also $75 each). This compared to $145 per tire for TRX's.
The Sumi's were much better in every way compared to the TRX's. They stuck
better in the wet than the TRX's in the dry, and also gave much improved
steering response. The wheels are also better looking, and easier to clean :).
My recommendation is to switch to more modern tires.
