This all sounds familiar. My 533 has never idled smoothly no matter what
I've done
to it. As far as mixture goes, i've been doing experiments with changing
the spring tension in the airflow sensor. With the O2 sensor disconnected
and the spring just a few notches looser, the car runs _much_ better. It
doesn't feel like it's gasping when you hit the pedal. Yesterday, getting
the car ready for sale, I reconnected
the O2 sensor and it started surging under acceleration just like Mike and
Nat are saying. Weird. But soon it won't be my problem! <big grin> The
surging idle (different from the surging acceleration) might turn off
potential buyers, however. The surging idle is actually a relatively new
problem. I thought any vacuum leaks would be eliminated during the cylinder
head job, but whatever it is, it's exactly the same now as before. The idle
control unit looks brand new inside--not even any signs of heat on the board
under the power transistor. The problem is intermittent though, and I just
hope it decides to be good when people come to look at it. (Fat chance) The
car _knows_ it's for sale--today the inside door handle broke off. shit shit
shit.
