    ...note that the ground around the tree is completely undisturbed.  I
guess the car could have gone airborne and hit the tree w/o disturbing the
ground, but chances seem slim.

    Also, would a tree that thin still be standing, unbowed, if it had been
hit hard enough to "taco" a well-made BMW?

    I suspect not.
