E34 alarm remote reprogram?

I have a 1995 E34 sedan.
The alarm battery went so I have replaced it.
I is actualy a slim sealed unit and the batter is soldered in!
It look diposable?
It is Not the one as fitted to the 7 series with the flip out key
or the one with the circular removable battery cover.

Now it will not activate the alarm in any way.
Do these units need reprograming in some way or syncronising
with the alrm unit?

I still have a working unit but NO FALL BACK!

Any advice?
