[alfa] 164 Blower Motor

Well I finally replaced the blower motor. It was not that difficult! I first
had the freon taken out by the Salt Lake Ferrari/Maserati dealer Harris
Imports. I then pretty much followed the instructions in the 164 CD except
that I saw no need to remove the wiper nuts and I did not remove the false
firewall support but only diconnected the two bolts securing it to the false
firewall and swiveled it out of the way. The removal of the firewall was
straight forward. Just remove the screws and electrical connections making
sure that you know where the wires connected to. I used ties to group wires
connected to the same post. I disconnected the air conditioning connections
around the evaporator and removed the evaporator. The evaporator took a
little jimmying to get out but that was not too bad. The fan housing was
straight forward but you must remeber to disconnect the stepper wire from the
air mixing lever on the fan housing or you will break the lever. Reassembly
was not bad and did not take too long. It is amazing how much leaves and misc
crud gets down in the area behind the false firewall. Anyway the job took a
total of 4 hours or so. I did it over a couple of nights so as not strain my
back. Terry Johnston
