Re: [alfa] Re: torque wrench

Hi Al:

According to the SK catalog, their torque wrenches are suitable for both right- and left-handed threads, although the margin of error increases from +/- 4% to +/- 6%. The Craftsman 'Digi-Tork' that I just exchanged at Sears claims +/- 3% in either direction (but recall that I didn't have very good reliability with two of those). If you type "torque wrench" into Goggle you'll find quite a few tool suppliers, but here's the 1/2" version of the 3/8" SK that I've been considering:

http://www.mytoolstore.com/sk/sk03161.html

Here's a site with a slightly lower price, but a less detailed description:

http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/nsearch?follow-pro=2&vwcatalog=sjdiscounttools&query=74151&catalog=sjdiscounttools&x=18&y=9

In all the browsing I've been doing on this topic, it seems that many, but not all torque wrenches are claimed to work in both directions (with a small penalty for the lefty threads). From what I've seen, only the $$$ Facom claimed equal accuracy both ways, but that is accomplished by flipping the ratchet head orientation on the handle.

Regards,

Dean

All,

With all this discussion regarding torque wrenches I was wondering if anyone
has run across a 'click' type 1/2" torque wrench which can measure torque in
either direction (useful for right and left hand lug nuts)? I have only
found them to work in the right hand direction.
