Don't know how true this is, but I've heard from several knowledgeable
individuals that Alfa OEM cats have a lot more platinum in them than do
aftermarket cats. That means that they should last several times longer
than the aftermarket variety. If so, the cheaper non-Alfa units would
simply not be the bargain that their slightly lesser price would have
one believe that they are.

Not the furry kind, either...
I was wondering if there is any great difference between the various
cats avalable from the various vendors.. Since I'm running now (YES!!!
#1119 is ALIVE again!!!) and need to get smogged for re registration,
and I have the original 27 yr old cat converter.. I would think I'm
buying one.
So, I was wanting to hear if there are ones to get or avoid.. probably
what's important is the ground clearance, are they better or worse than
the original "hatbox:" one of the 70's, which is kinda low to start
with. Or is there lower quality problems and such?
Lastly but probaly not leastly, is how do they sound? I know they are
more free flowing, which should improve things, and do any of their
natural resonance work exceptionally well with the Alfa exhaust note?
And here's a question for Eric, is it possible to run a 70's Spica
motor with a cat and WITHOUT the air injection pump? Mine is a noisy,
nasty mess.. it and it's pulley makes such noise I thought I had
bearing
problems in my newly rebuilt engine.. and I HATE that ugly, always in
the way bracket up front!!
Thanks!!
Jon
