[alfa] Spider trunk cable broken

Hi All,

A friend of mine not on the digest has a '78 Spider with a broken trunk 
release cable.  The big problem is that it's broken at the latch end.  
I've looked through the archives, but have only found advice regarding 
breakage at the handle end.  Any suggestions short of using the 'jaws of 
life'?
