[alfa] Winter Projects!

1st problem - hit a puddle = runs like crap.

If it splashes high enough.. the distributor is right.. possibly also the spark plug wires are leaky and a big dose of humidity (steam from exhaust pipes) could be shorting you out. How long does it take to recover (it does recover, right?)

2nd problem - my tires suck... anybody stuck 185/60-14s on a '78ish Spider

Those are smaller in diameter.. there are a few sizes that are near correct for the right size rolling diameter (causes car gearing to be the same, and speedo not to be wrong) and that's not one of them..
Look for a tire calculator that can tell you what sizes are right for the original size (equiv being 165/78 or /80 -14) I don't have the URL, but there's a Miata site that has one, some tire sites as well. Off the top of my head, and probably wrong, I think the correct ones are:
185/70 -14
195/65 -14 I think this is the closest to perfect size wise.
205/60 -14 Some say this is too much for a street car, really hard cranking in parking lots.

If you keep in a close to stock diameter, the car will be no taller or shorter than it was, as well as the gearing being the same and the speedo reading right.

Lots of Digest discussion on tire sizes, ride, reccomendation to dig up searching the archives, too..

#4 I thought I answered in another message, but haven't seen it show up yet.. Check the center flange of the driveshaft for tightness.. very dangerous if it's coming loose. Also look at your rubber support for the center bearing and the bearing itself..
