RE: [alfa] Timing chain adjustment?
Josh,
Are you sure that it is the chain? I've found a loose or worn chain sounds
more like a rattle than a tick. Are your valve clearances within spec?
If you are convinced it is the chain, the first thing to check is whether the
sliding wedge that locks the chain tensioner is correctly in place. Remove
the adjusting bolt, and look in the hole with a mirror. There should be a
flat piece of metal at the base of the bolt hole, with a small hole drilled
in the centre, concentric to the adjusting bolt hole. Also check that there
is still a nipple on the end of the adjusting bolt.
If both of these are as they should be, then chances are your upper chain is
worn and needs replacing.
