I'm not sure how the vents attach but I do seem to recall removing the
glovebox on my 78 without pulling the dash. Just pull the screws
inside the glovebox and shove it out the bottom of the dash. Of
course, that was before I added A/C to the car.
If yours has air this obviously gets in the way.
