Not everyone has a 12 string guitar handy, or is willing to cannibalize it
for the sake of road tunes . . . there is another solution, however. I
successfully used heavy garden trimmer string, one cold winter nite, as a
replacement for the throttle cable for my 79 Sport Sedan (back in about
985  - the car was still nearly new). This substitute has the advantage of
being self lubricating. I left it in place (with a proper spare in the
trunk) for many thousands of miles, it worked so well.
