Hi Dan:
I've been inside my '87 speedo a number of times, and never had any
success. Mine is very smooth and steady, but reads about 60% low. I'm
certain it's not a cable or sender issue, as the odometer is dead
accurate. On a drive from Miami to Tampa, Mapquest said 312 miles, and the
odo clocked 314. There is a small adjustment pot I've played with, and
really couldn't tell any difference. I have corresponded with several
others who have sent their speedo's off to Palo Alto Speedometer, and only
one ended up being repaired to the point of actually working. I've also
re-soldered all the joints on the circuit boards and cleaned all the cable
connectors. The only thing I haven't checked out is that I heard Peter
Krause knows something about replacing a chip on one of the circuit
boards. Please let me know if you come across anything new.
Regards,
Dean

Hi all,
I'm looking for any wisdom before I dig into my speedo. It "works" but
registers ~20 mph at 65mph, ~28 mph at ~90 mph. I've checked and cleaned
the tranny cable, looks & turns fine. The fact that the odo appears
accurate tells me this problem is in the gauge itself, right? Does anyone
have a spare instrument cluster they would be willing to sell or loan to
me? (working or non-working speedo, I will pay fair price) Anyone know
offhand what the cable rotation speed is relative to axles?
thanks in advance for any help. I've put off fixing this thing too long,
and/or fixed everything else, so it's time to tackle it. I'd rather
figure it out than ship it somewhere.
