[alfa] Proper engine break-in

Jon Pike asks why don't modern cars require engine break-in. My 2003 MINI
Cooper S had a stated break-in period of 1250 miles. The instructions were to
not exceed 4500 r.p.m./95 m.p.h., and to not press hard on the brakes (if
possible). So that is one manufacturer that still recommends a break-in
interval.

And a buddy of mine recently got a BMW Z3 coupe (with the special M3 motor?) that had a long break in as well...
Perhaps the performance vehicles need special treatment for their state of tune, and how they might be used, as ppposed to a low tune transportation car, with an automatic that won't see drastic extremes..

Or, maybe it's because that thing is a 3L straight six with a 7000 rpm redline..
