[alfa] Re: 95 brake master leak
Bill:
It is indeed, a difficult situation when you have to pay for a major component
when the problem is easily solved with the replacement of a simple seal! In my
case, I was lucky because I found out, with help from my local Alfa dealer,
that the leaking seal on my brake MC is the same as used in the SEAT brake
cylinder. SEAT is the Spanish car manufactured around VW engines and systems.
It seems that the SEAT's MC uses the same seals as my 1995 Alfa 164 Super, and
they do make rebuilding kits for these components! I bought the seals and
replaced them in my MC, being careful to note the correct installation
sequence, and my problem is now solved! Total cost: $22.00

Subject: 95 brake master leak
Jose,
The bad news is the brake master on a 94/95 164 is a Bosch unit that is
replaced as a unit. $341 current list price. I know this because an unnamed
AROC VP just enjoyed getting a new on in his Q.
Same issue, leaking, and it's designed to not be a serviceable part.
Sorry for the bad news....
