Re: [alfa] water wonder
Graham,
From experience with 1970's 116 GT/Vs I'd guess that either a floor bung has
come adrift, and/or the waterproofing liner behind the trim panel isn't
doing its job correctly. Both problems are easily remedied, though the
carpet may take a while to dry out. On my early GTVs the carpet is
plastic-backed so any moisture in the underfelt isn't immediately noticeable
thru the carpets. The smell is distinctive though !
The front floor bungs are usually the culprits on 116 based cars (including
the 75) as pressurised water comes rearward off a front tyre, dislodges the
bung, and the floor cavity is then force-fed a diet of H2O. One of the
first tasks I carry out on a 116 is to peel back the carpet and glue the
bungs in with sealant.
