well, that's a head scratcher. did someone mill the
block (and use a thicker gasket)? what is the history
of this motor (pair, since you mentioned your friend
has same symptoms)? grasping a bit - could the motor
have 3L liners and pistons (easy to check through
piston bore)? i've been turning this over in my head
and can't see any way you'd get a uniform 1.5 mm
protrusion like that by accident (it's not big enough
to allow the liners to become cockeyed in the block).
(incidentally, i seem to recall that my '87 had the
multipart gasket the first time i pulled the heads)
