RE: [alfa] 105/115 starter interchange



Alfa changed ring gears in '75 on these cars. The only other starter you want to put on your '72 (assuming it has the oroginal ring gear) is one from a series 4 spider (1991- 1994). I just did this for my '73 Spider and it works perfect. I had tried the one from the '75 - '90 but it grinded. If you have any questions on this, call Paul at DiFatta Brothers and he can explain it to you. The series 4 starter (Bosch gear reduction) is expensive, but worth it.

Again, do NOT put the worng starter in this car. You will chew up your gear gear, regardless of whether the starter has the same number of teeth (because the pitch is different).

If it's got the same number of teeth (9 vs 8), then it will work fine.
Weight could be an issue, I wouldn't leave it there long term without
the support bracket.

The reduction gear starters are the best!
