Re: [alfa] Spider Blower motor removal
Karl,
Save yourself some cursing and just go ahead and remove the whole hearter
box. Its really not too bad with a few hints. First, take out the center
console, the wiring just unplugs and the cables and heater controls drop right
down with 2 screws. Then, remove the plastic ducts and stuff the flex duct
material upwards and out of the way. Here is the real secret. Invest in a universal
and mid length extension for your quarter inch rachet. Four hex screws hold
the complete heater box in and you can get to them all fairly easily with these
tools. Of course you must pinch off the heater hoses under the hood and
disconect them at the heater box. Just take it all out and spend some intimate time
with it. You will be glad you did. When the box is out, it will have all the
cables intact and the bottom comes right off to reveal the blower. While mine
was out, I took it completely apart and cleaned and put in new "weather
stripping" around the heater core. It makes you feel so good to put it back nice and
clean and neat!

I'm trying to replace my blower motor and inspect my heater core (I got a
drop of coolant on my hand while yanking away at the blower motor
housing). I removed the four 7mm bolts that hold the ducts on to either
side of the housing, and perhaps five 8mm nuts off of studs, removed the
rear linkage for one of the flaps, and the cable linkage, but I can't seem
to get that lower cover off to get access to the motor. Any suggestions?
thanks,
Karl
