[alfa] spider cat converter

The unit on my '91 is 16" long dual in dual out, and looks like about 1.75"
inlets and 1.75" outlets. Summit Racing (www.summitracing.com) carries a 2"
dual inlet and outlet for $115 and a 2" dual inlet with 2.5" outlet unit for
$97. They are part numbers CTO-8012 and CTO-9513 respectively, both are 17"
long, but could probably be made to fit. The exhaust Y's into a single pipe
shortly after the cat on the spider, so this could be bypassed completely
welding one one bend after the cat. The pipe seems to by 1" 7/8 after the Y
(maybe a tad larger, but I am also measuring OD and I can never remember if
exhaust is measured OD or ID - I think ID)
Eric - the digest's emissions expert - would fitting a cat that is clearly
intended for larger throughput than this not work well? Would it never get up
to operating temperature? Would emissions end up being worse (although
performance may increase due to less restriction)?
It's going to be tough to find anything that is dual in dual out that small, I
assume.
Any suggestions?
