Re: [alfa] Which Spirax?
Don,
The correct spec is 80W90HD. SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers)
classification is J706G, API (American Petroleum Institute) GL-5. What
follows is included at my own peril (and possible ridicule) but here it is.
Browsing at my local Wal-Mart, I found a 5 quart bottle of gear oil that
meets these exact qualifications. Given the hassle finding Spirax in
reasonable quantities, I investigated and found that indeed on paper it
meets the specs in the Alfa shop manual. Bought, used it and my gearbox (so
far) is fine. Or, you can hunt for Spirax. Refill on your box should be
1.85 liters.
Don
