Re: [alfa] Clutch Bleeding '89 Spider

Zach,

It seems that you are not sure the clutch was working properly before you
opened the system. Check the following:

Slave travel whould be 11-12mm.
Observe the slave with someone operating with the dust boot pulled back -
any leak from the slave and it's bad.
Do the same with the master cylinder - any leak is bad. MCs can be rebuilt
if not too worn inside. Best to replace them.
It's possible that the seals in either cylinder have lost ther "seal" when
the system was opened to the air. New seals or complete units are about the
only options.

The usual sources have these in stock: Cernterline, Spruell, DiFatta,
Bruce's. Check the archives for one Digester's recent experience with parts
of poor workmanship from one vendor.

Don

have reassembled my spider and am trying to bleed the clutch. However, I can
only get about 8mm of travel on the slave cylinder. Have now manually pumped
about a quart of fluid thru the system.

actually driven this car more than a quarter mile and don't really know
where the pedal should be in relation to the brake.

I'm not sure if this is just run-off from the bleeder.
