[alfa] Clutch Master Cylinder Rebuild Questions- 69 Spider

I went back through the archives, blew off the dust, and found Charlie
Slayman's reply to Robert Watson regarding the above subject. Not sure
if it matters, but have never found Robert's original post. Since
Charlie re-posted the entire email, I wanted to verify some of the
facts.

Robert Watson lives in Novato, CA. Checked the old map and he is near
the ocean. Still, I'm inclined to think you're all barking up the the
wrong tree trying to blame his clutch MC replacements, (approximately)
every two years, on brake fluid. However, I will admit I'd double check
with the clutch MC supplier and ask what brake fluid they recommend (is
the most compatible) for their '69 Clutch MC's seals.

My thinking is since he is replacing the clutch MC every two years, he
undoubtedly has to be replacing the brake fluid. Perhaps this close to
the ocean, every year might be better, but find it hard to believe, no
matter what DOT fluid he's using, this is the problem. AND he puts 15k
miles on it every year - it ain't sitting around inviting rust to grow
in the cylinder.

Certainly not all Alfas, but many (I'd guess most) with clutch
assemblies beneath the car (floor mounted pedals) are strictly
mechanical actuation. In turn, I'm sure most hydraulic actuated Alfa
clutch MC's are in the engine bay.

Point being, the clutch MC is located in a very dirty place. I suggest
he look there first.
