Peter, you might also try one of those 'wrenches' that looks like an oil-filter 
wrench, but using a big adjustable rubber strap. Tighten the strap around the 
accumulator ball and twist off. Be mindful of any torque you might be putting 
on the motor and mountings. And like others have said, after following the 
manual to relieve the pressure, mine sprayed over my car and my friends.... 
Perhaps open one of the rear bleed screws with the pump un-hooked and pump a 
few times? Either way, do wrap a towel around the base very well. Mine sprayed 
despite my towel.
