That's why I said MIG weld (wire weld). A good welder (unlike yrs trly) can
run a small bead around the inside of the pivot bracket and give you a lasting
repair. Peter Krause was correct, if you purchase a new part, have it
reinforced before you install. No sense in doing the job again. As long as
there's no excess weld metal globbed up on the shaft, the holes will align and
the thing will go back together.
And yes, be sure and grease up the shaft on reassembly. And put some silly
cone on the wilted foam gasket under the pedal box to prevent rain leaks. And
loctite that nut on the tapered pin, too!
