[alfa] re: clutch bleeding etc



"Stacy, if I understood your post correctly, your clutch pivot pin has broken
at the weld exiting the pedal box.  If this is the case, it will get worse and
shear completely.  The weld on the pin is a weak point on these cars.  You can
buy replacements from International Auto (and others I'm sure).  You are right
that the pedal box is not that difficult to remove.  When you put the pin in,
make sure you grease it well."

Erik gives some good advice here regarding the pedal pivot shaft, and no, it's
not a bad job.  The worst part is reassembly of the pedals and all lying on
the driver side floor (just get a pillow under your back and over the door
sill, if you're lacking some of youth's flexibility like me...).  However,
once I saw how the weld failure occurred, I decided to mig weld mine.  The
resulting repair will probably outlast both car and owner.  All that's needed
is a nice little fillet around the inside where the shaft meets the pivot arm,
but be certain both parts are in their correct relative positions!
