[alfa] RE: GTV6 fuel pressure

Ryan,

I haven't done this on the GTV-6 but I think it is easily done.

To test other Bosch cars (SAAB specifically but others too) I purchased a ACRTON fuel pressure gauge at Sears for a reasonable price. You can find them online at various tool discounters. The gauge attaches to a standard A/C schrader valve which I purchased from Granger at a cost of about $10 for a set of 4 or 6. For the SAAB/VW and I don't remember what other Bosch cars I got a banjo bolt, drilled and tapped it and installed a schrader valve. To test, I remove a banjo bolt from the fuel manifold and replace it with my schrader valve/bolt and test away. I do not leave the test tap in for long as it isn't the strongest part in the world; it might leak in continuous use. To adapt the gauge to the GTV-6 you either cut the hose on the gauge and install a T which I wont do because I want to keep the ability to use the gauge on other cars. OR you purchase a Female T at Lowes (Brass of course) that will take a schrader valve in one port and buy two - 5/16" hose barbs in the other ports. You can install this between the cold start valve and the hose from the fuel manifold using a short (6"-8") piece of fuel line. You can probably get away with 5/16" for testing, be sure to use the 7.5mm hose for anything permanent. And the right clamps too.

I have a schrader valve or two if you or anyone else is interested.

Subject: [alfa] GTV6 fuel pressure

Now that I've finally gotten some time to begin work on the '84...she won't start. I get a catch, a sorry attempt at an idle for all of maybe 2 seconds and then kaput. Subsequent attempts to start yield nothing, and even a slight coaxing with the accelerator produces the plenum pop...no more of that. That being said, all my grounds are clean, double relay = good, fuel filter is new, and the fuel pump actuates with the opening of the AFM. As I suspect she is running only on the cold start injector (hence the fire and die) I'd like to check the fuel pressure and the regulator (even though the pump is turning on, it's efficiency is still in question) How does one do this? I should know, but then again...I've never had to check before... Any other suggestions? Any and all input is greatly appreciated - thanks to all.
