A manual vehicle in neutral will suffer no ill effects

Not, ture.  Without the motor running, the only thing turning in the gearbox
is the mainshaft inside the gear cluster.  Without the gears turning,
nothing is getting any lube.  Best to unhook the driveshaft at the
differential.  Otherwise you could fry the 123, and 5 gear
bushings/bearings.
