85 GTV-6 A/C and Heater Primary Fan
Alfisti,
I have an 85 Alfa TV-6 with a Behr Tropic Air Heating and A/C system. The system has a secondary fan under the glove box. My 79 Alfetta has the same system, but without the secondary fan. Both systems have two wires going to the applicable fan and a 3-speed switch. The 3-speed switches test good.
I need, according to my auto electronic repair man, to remove the main fan from the system to be sure the main motor works and to locate the resistor. (Yesterday, the main motor worked for about 30 seconds and then quit. The secondary fan works by itself, except for the 3rd speed, and does not work if connected to the main fan wires.) Of course, I have never found a Haynes or Alfa Manual that directly applies to the 85 GTV-6. I have the Haynes Alfetta, a Spider Alfa and a Milano Alfa Manuals. Further, I have never found instructions to remove the main fan, except to remove an entire A/C system. I have removed the switch and can see all the wires leading elsewhere, including to the main fan.
My questions are:
What manual do I use to deal with the 85 GTV-6?
How do you remove the main fan?
Where is the resistor and where do you get a replacement?
How does a 2-wire system operate the fan in 3 speeds?
Independent of the foregoing, my Owner's Manual indicates to add 3 quarts of 80/90 oil to the transmission/differential housing after the system is drained. However, when I stick my finger in the filler hole, I can barely touch the oil. How much oil should have been added? To the filler hole level? (I had replaced the clutch.)
