i should also point out that there are readily available tire size
calculators. if you go look at ftp://ftp.krusty-motorsports.com/Autos/
you'll find
tire-size.c
tire-size.lisp
tire-size-tables.text
tire-size.text
tiresize.xls
a c program, a lisp program, and an excel spreadsheet that may help (they
are all more-or-less equivalent, as i recall.) tire-size-tables.text is
just the output from a program of this type giving raw numbers that can be
used for comparison, and tire-size.text is an old usenet posting explaining
the sizing system.
(this directory is an ancient usenet rec.autos.* archive that i've never
gotten around to cleaning up, as it still has some useful stuff in it.)
