After having unsuccessfully stood on the hod. I pried the hood open slightly 
and inserted the tube attachment from a can of WD-40. Did this for three days 
running, hoping to hit the latch. Finally, with a strong assistant on the 
release handle, I bounced on the hood. These effort were crowned with success.
