Stuck Hood on Alfetta GTV

I need suggestions on opening my hood. The steel cable is intact. I broke the 
nylon back up cable. I have had a suggestion that I stand on the hood over 
the latch while someone else pulled the cable. Tried that. Any other 
suggestions? Can the latch be reached with a socket on a long extension from underneath?
