Re: 164 suspension noises
Noise is obviously from tire hitting splash shield. There is supposed to be a
stop on the steering rack to prevent this but it wears out. The clunking is
from worn shock bearings. If your car is high mileage then you should change
all four springs at the same time as shocks. It saves a lot of money in the long
run. Check Jason at Alfissimo.com for prices as he specializes in suspension
parts for 164 and very reasonable. Likewise De Fatta in Baltimore, or David at
AllParts in Berkeley CA. Jon Norman at AlfaParts is outrageously overpriced
on all Alfa parts. New springs, bearings and shocks (Boge High Performance)
sure made a difference to my 164LS as did cutting an inch off the back ones to
lower the rear.
