more Autodelta notes
About the possible sentence... bear in mind that so far, nobody has served
time for violating any of these rules. Since this was a rather minor
violation, the possibility of anyone from Autodelta serving time is quite
remote. Same with the actual fine- relative to the rest of the industry
their fine will be not too bad, hard for a 2 person corporation to do it,
yes...
Of course 20 cars is a drop in the bucket when one looks at the emissions,
there were more than that last week parked in Ft Lauderdale that are far
worse. But that is not the issue. One person starts with 20, then a
person sues for 200, followed by 2000, and all of a sudden there are no
laws. Also consider that there are numerous consumer protection laws that
are toward all OEM's, which is the main reason that one needs to be one to
sell cars that are new- required warrantee, lemon laws, new tires
laws. The US auto industry is one of the most regulated industries there
are. And it covers all or nothing.
Panoz DOES have to follow the laws, just like Saleen, Shelby... But Panoz
is smart enough to take an already certified powertrain from the
Mustang. As for crash- that is not my expertise...
And PLEASE don't say that trucks and SUV's were without emissions
laws. That is such a load of BS it's not funny. All trucks under 6000lb
have had the SAME emissions standards as cars for about 15 years!!! And up
to very recently, MOST (90%+) of all SUV/ Pick ups where light duty
trucks. When you buy a ULEV Ranger, it passes the SAME emissions as an
ULEV Honda. No Joke.
Please, before spouting that the sky is falling, understand the real
rules. For better or for worse, all OEM's must abide by them. And if you
are familiar with EU laws, some of those countries have laws that make it
difficult to import cars there as well. Including Italy.
