with all these recommendations for Deoxit, keep in mind that
this stuff is really best as a corrosion inhibitor. if one needs to
clean off dirty, greasy contacts or remove nasty flaky corrosion,
this is not the product to do this. Deoxit was designed for
the thin surface corrosion found on electronics' connections,
not 30 year old Italian car parts left out in the elements . if you
soak a green penny in the stuff, not much will happen.
when i rebuilt the wiring harness on my GTV, i cleaned the
connections first with spray can "contact cleaner," then i dunked
them in Tarn-X copper cleaner to remove the dark brown and
green stuff. i cleaned off the acid with distilled water, dried, and
THEN applied the Deoxit.
so far, everything is working great.
