Re: AROC Convention Update

Just a quick note to recap my thoughts on the
just-ended AROC Convention:

1- Marc Mosko deserves ENORMOUS credit for a terrific
Convention. This is not to slight the great many
people, both from the local chapter, other FL chapters
and from all over...but Marc did an astonishing job
and deserves not only the accolades, but also the
Presidency of the national AROC. I am extremely happy
and proud of his accomplishments.

2- I had a great time at all the events, even if they
left me a bit exhausted!
a) I tracked (albeit only for parade laps) my Maratona
for the 1st time and was pleased with the responsive
nature of the engine and how well the suspension and
brakes performed. Now, for a for-real time trial car,
I now have a better idea of what I want...
Big kudos to Steve Piantieri (whom I met 6 years ago
at a cigar event unrelated to anything
automotive...Steve, I still have your cigar that I owe
you)
b) The Poker Rally was also a great bit of fun, and a
treat to gather for the after-reception and chatting
with a lot of AROC members, especially those who are
Digesti.
c) I also autocrossed for the very first time ever
(big Kudos to Storhok, Hoard & Co.) and, given my
specific intent to Not Completely Embarrass Myself, I
succeeded beyond my wildest expectations and i know
there are several cones exhaling relievedly in
Michigan. I was not, alas, able to defend last place.
d) The Banquet was a great deal of fun, especially our
table. I officially apologize to the rest of the
ballroom for our, um, spirited behavior. Having all
the "characters" (i.e.,troublemakers) together is just
too much. How the lot of us managed to not get
detention from Marc is a mystery to me. I hope someone
posts a picture of Bernie Z as Frank Zappa.

And we really DIDN'T forge our winning tickets.
Really.

e) The Concorso was also excellent, and I especially
loved the Bella Macchina class (street modified & race
cars) so that these cars, no longer 100% original can
get a fair shake. So many lovely, lovely cars that I
can't imagine having a house big enough to store them
*all*.

I was very satisfied that, after having tracked and
autocrossed my car, it only took from 5am to 10am
(including travel time from my house to the site) to
get my car neat and pretty. Thanks to all of you who
stopped by with all the very, very nice and kind
words.

Now, on to New England.

Thinking of that "most miles driven to the 2005
Convention" award,
