Re: alfa-digest V9 #608

Gossip is right. The production Brera, originally designed by Giugiaro of ItalDesign is being "re-designed" for production by Alfa Romeo Centro Stile head Wolfgang Egger, and there is no reason for it to have anything to do with Zagato. Heck, Zagato neither designed nor built the LAST Alfa to carry the 'Z' designation, the SZ/RZ of the early nineties. Zagato merely had input into the final design. It was completely built at Arese.

The GM-Holden V-6, while a possibility, is still not for sure (unless the decision was made after the middle of May), and it's a 3.8 liter engine anyway, not a 3.6. JTS is a distinct probability irrespective of which V-6 Alfa ends up using. My feeling is an Alfa with a Holden V-6 is no longer an Alfa. The current Alfa V-6 is one of the world's great engines and everybody in the automotive world knows it. AR would be stupid to squander the time and development spent or the great reputation that V-6 has earned for an engine out of an Australian sedan.

Don't hold your breath for the version using the Ferrari V-12, either. That has (in my humble opinion) ZERO credibility. First of all, the engine is almost 5.8 Liters (360 ci) and is physically huge. It likely wouldn't fit in an engine bay designed for a V-6 (or a Maserati V-8 for that matter -which it is almost 14 inches longer than), and would make the car cost more than $200,000. Not likely.

Some of the latest gossip on this car is the following:

- - The name will be "TZ3", not "Sportiva Evoluta".
- - Most likely built by Zagato
- - Engine will be a version of the Fiat-GM Powertrain (FGP)
"Electron" HFV6.
- - Engine will use JTS
- - 3.6L 24v V6 with twin-turbos.
- - Front engine, RWD (incorporating Maserati's transaxle)

Apparently there will also be a Alfa Romeo TZ3 GTA "Scuderia Ferrari"
that uses a detuned Ferrari V12.
