2 Questions: spirax oil, and Berlina clutch problems
Greetings Digesti,
I have two questions. First the easier one:
What type of the Shell Spirax Gear oil is recommended
for the Alfa Romeos? When looking at a web site of
Shell lubricants, they have Spirax HD and
Spirax S listed (there is also an EW, but it appears
to be designed for heavy duty drive axle applications).
Are there any benefits/detriments to one vs. the other?
Here is the web address I was looking at: http://www.shell-lubricants.com/products/products.php?c=3
I apologize if this has already been answered elsewhere.
My second question is about the clutch on my '71 Berlina.
It sat for two-three weeks. When I went to start it, I
pushed in the clutch and the pedal dropped to the floor
with no resistance. When I checked the fluid reservoir
for the clutch, it was empty. I have filled up the
reservoir with the appropriate fluid, and it seems to be
maintaining the level, even after pumping the clutch pedal
several times (a couple dozen or so). I can see no obvious leaks nearthe master cylinder area in the engine compartment.
Any ideas as to what would cause this? The clutch was
working fine before it was parked. Also, if anyone had
any tips on how to bleed the clutch, they would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks!
