Milano Tranny noise diagnoses
My 3.0 is chirping for lack of a better term. I get a "whee-whee-whee"
sound as I accelerate and decelerate to a stop. I can only hear it at
slower speeds, otherwise it's out of audible range. Standing at idle, in
neutral, when I push the clutch in I hear the noise slow to stop
quickly. Also, as I decelerate to a stop and downshift the frequency of
the sounds changes as I shift gears , presumably based on the speed of
the main shaft. It does not matter if the car is on or off, nor does it
matter if the car is cold or not. One diagnosis over the phone (by a
reputable local Alfa specialist) was some sort of shaft bearing or
something on the reverse gear. I was told the pinion bearing is not
likely. The repair would be $1000 including any syncros, cylinders,
etc. I may want to throw in. I need a second opinion.
Thanks! -Espen
