How do you put red Alfa lettering on the V6 covers???

I have seen many V6 Alfa engines with the Red lettering on the valve cover 
and intake manifold.  I was wondering what the best approach was for doing 
this.  (Paint choice, preparation, application, etc.).  Also what king of 
longevity can be expected??
