Thanks to all who repllied to my question about removing the alternator from a 164. I almost removed the headlight to make more room, but never thought it was the easy way to go. Who would have thunk :-)

One down, one to go...but both cars could be had for the low, low, price of $2100 so I don't have to do another alternator! Last chance today.
