Bill and all,

For the jouneyman/experienced Alfa wrench, the Alfa procedure is probably
OK.  For the majority of other Alfa owners who are pretty good with a wrench
and have every reason to expect that they should be able to master a timing
belt/tensioner adjustment, the Alfa procedure is too vague.  "Rotate the
tensioner counterclockwise until a resistance is felt."  How much
resistance?  Even using the torque limit, there is still room for error.
The procedure I used simply says line up the pointer with the mark.  No
drama, no ambiguity.  Certainty beat uncertainty every time when a valve job
is involved.  I agree on strict adherence to the tensioner replacement
interval.
