Australia also mandates laminated front glass on new vehicles via our
Australian Design Regulations (ADRs).  Has done for decades.

I once had a 1/2 brick fall off the back of a truck I was following at
around 90KPH and it hit my 116GTV screen right where the rear view mirror
attaches.  I saw it coming and ducked !  The noise it made sounded like it
had crushed the roof but the only damage was the impact zone, about 4 square
inches, and it only slightly penetrated the inner layer.

The brick luckily bounced over the top, clearing my expensive month-old
paint job.  My girlfriend at the time was as white as a sheet as it was
heading exactly for her head and she just froze.

So laminated glass works !
