RE: Spider Brake MC Replace Question
As for bleeding the master cylinder ... what works for is the following:
Install the new master cylinder, and fill with fresh fluid. Hold a wad of
rags or paper towels under the fluid lines at the master cylinder. Pump the
brake pedal a few times, crack one of the lines, and repeat a few times.
Repeat at the other lines as if you were bleeding the brakes in the normal
manner.
Just so happens that my arms are long enough that I can do this by myself on
a spider, YMMV.
After doing it this way, many times you can get away without bleeding at the
wheels, but you may wish to anyway to pump some fresh fluid through the
system.
I've never seen any damage done to the brake booster by a leaking master
cylinder.
HTH,
Jeff
Lat weekend, while replacing the passenger side motor mount and the 4 plenum
air hoses, I noticed that my brake MC is leaking where it connects to the
servo unit (weep hole leak?). Rather than attempt a rebuild I have ordered a
replacement unit. Seems straightforward but I am concerned about bleeding
the system.
Can anyone offer any advice / experiences on prepping the unit before it is
installed in order to minimize the amount of air that is sucked into the
system from a new unit? IAP notes the idea of "bench bleeding" but these
novice hands are short on wisdom.
Also, I believe a long past post noted that one can suck any fluid that may
have leaked into the servo unit with a syringe and that the fluid would not
damage the unit. True?
