Alfa 166 on UK TV 'Top Gear'

I was watching Top Gear tonight, and in their bargains section there was a
comment on a number of slow sellers being disposed of by main dealers into the
second line car-supermarkets at heavily discounted prices. They highlighted
the Alfa 166 as a particular bargain. A new 166TS can be had for #10,000
(about $15,000) and new 3 litre 166 can be had for about #13,000 ( about
$19,500). Even the journalists at Top Gear could hardly believe that such a
good car was being sold at these prices, but as they said "when did you last
see one?" They described the quad cam V6 as one of the finest engines ever put
in a road car.

Maybe if Alfa UK didn't overprice the cars to start with they wouldn't end up
with a fire sale when nobody buys them. The UK buyer is a lot more aware of
international prices these days and is less willing to be stung than was once
the case. Imagine what this does to residual sale prices if you bought one at
a main dealer...Ouch!

Interestingly also there was a survey published about which manufacturers had
hiked their service/labour costs the most above inflation over the last five
years. VW got the prize with an increase of 95% compared with inflation at
about 20%. over the same period.
